Back in 2007, Steve Jobs introduced a concept during the launch of the iPhone: the idea of building apps using standard web technologies to enhance accessibility and popularity. Seventeen years later, this vision has evolved into what we now know as Progressive Web Apps (PWAs). These applications blend web and mobile experiences, delivering fast and engaging user experiences directly from the browser.
The journey developing the Distilld app
Distilld was born out of a passion for whisky and a desire to create a platform where enthusiasts could discover, share, and appreciate whisky. Unsure whether desktop or mobile would be the more popular approach, I wanted to ensure flexibility. By leveraging PWA technology, we created an app that offers a seamless experience across all devices. Distilld is downloadable on the Google Play Store and the App Store, as well as accessible on the web at distilld.io.
